One day at a time

Yesterday was a hard stressful day;
We had our follow up appointment on Monday with Reagan.
It was actually a good day,  not as hard as I had expected it to be.
I was calm and patient and felt like I could do anything.
Then on Tuesday it got tough.
We are wrapping and re wrapping Reagan's leg three times a day.
It is stressful.  She does not like it.
Today was a good day!
We are learning to wrap faster.
It can only get easier.
I hope.

My Special Girl

Reagan getting ready for surgery in her scooby doo gown.

Here we are in the holding room, Reagan was pretty sleepy at this point.

Finally I got to hold my baby.

Reagan and her Doctor.

Daddy took Reagan for a wagon ride!

Almost ready to go home!
Surgery day has come and gone.  I can't believe it and I am so relieved that it is over.  We arrived at the hospital on the day of surgery at 7 am.  It was not an easy day.  It was hell day in a lot of ways.  I was emotional from the moment we pulled out of the drive way.  I actually started to talk myself out of everything in my head.  As we took our exit I literally thought, "we could just keep going and run away from it all."  But the reality was that we could not run away.  As much as I knew in my heart and in my mind that Reagan needed to have surgery to amputate her foot it was soooo hard to send her into surgery.  Reagan was an absolute doll.  Everyone fell in love with her at the hospital.  Nurses would come to our room just to see her because they heard how beautiful she is.  Everyone involved in taking care of Reagan was amazing.  I felt so much support and so much love.  I could not have done this without all of the love from my family and friends.  I thank all of you for your phone calls and hugs.  Reagan is doing great.  She doesn't even act like she just had surgery.  She is crawling everywhere like usual and is as happy as she always has been.  We follow up with the Doctor on the 17th, meet with the Prosthesis department, fit her for a prosthetic in 5 weeks, and then get her leg soon after.  Sage is taking this all pretty well.  She is still trying to understand what has happened.  She has many questions.  I figure we just take it one day at a time.  There is one thing that I have learned through all of this, "TRUST in the Lord with all thine heart."  I have had complete faith in the Lord through all of this and I know that He has carried me along the way.

Merry Christmas 2010

Annual Christmas Eve Party at the Simons house!  With of course the matching jammies from Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Christmas morning!

Wells Fargo gave Reagan a giant horse for Christmas!  They usually donate these stuffed animals to charity but because they know that Reagan is having surgery they gave it to her!  It was a big hit Christmas morning!

We had went to The Pie the other night and I thought these were some cute pic's.  How did we get a picture of Scott and I together?  Well Sage is an aspiring photographer!  She really does a great job!

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas!  We sure did!

Little Reagan

For journaling purposes for myself and my family I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings about my little Reagan.  She is now 9 months old.  I can't believe how fast time has gone by, how much she has grown, and how much she has changed my life.   Reagan truly lights up any room she is in.  She is beautiful, happy, feisty, energetic, and full of love.  As I think about her and about our journey with her I can not deny Heavenly Father's hand in our life.  I can say that I know that He sent me special and very specific angel's to help me through this process.  Rachel, my dear friend that my sister set me up with, has given me hope by sharing her life with me.  Her sweet daughter Bailey also has FH (fibular hemamilia) like Reagan.  She is an amazing and beautiful girl.  Jessie, an incredible 20 year old who has FH, has given me peace.  Peace that Reagan will have a normal life and that she will be able to do everything and anything she wants.  My Bishop, who has shown us a wealth of sincere love and support.
Scott and I knew that the day would come when we needed to make a decision about Reagan's leg.  You see we had two choices. One option was to have her undergo many surgeries of leg lengthening procedures, followed by ankle and knee surgeries.  Or to amputate her foot.  We spent 9 months thinking about this, talking to people, researching, praying, fasting, and of course loving our baby girl.  I can say that I know with certainty that we should amputate her foot.  Scott feels the same way, as well as the Doctor when we went in for her 9 month appointment at Shriner's Hospital for Children.  Reagan will have surgery on January 5th, 2011.  She will be fitted for a leg 6 weeks after surgery and we should get it a week or so after.  After that point she will learn to walk with her new leg.  She will never know the difference.
Earlier today I had a very neat experience.  All that I will share is that it felt as though Heavenly Father's arms were around me.  I felt overwhelmed by his presence and know that he has not forgotten us.
